Eclipse is update 12.2 and the final major content update for World of Warcraft: Midnight. Unveiled by Blizzard at BlizzCon 2026, it will take players into Azeroth’s Worldcore to face Xal’atath and her Devouring Host. That confrontation sets up the transition to The Last Titan, the third and final expansion of the Worldsoul Saga. As of October 22, 2026, Blizzard had not announced an exact release date for Eclipse or the following expansion.

The sequence matters: 12.1.5 has already launched, 12.1.7 is in development, and Eclipse is still future content. The details below separate available features, announcements, and story events whose outcomes have not yet been published.

Where Eclipse fits in the Midnight sequence

The Worldsoul Saga, introduced in 2023, was structured around three expansions: The War Within, Midnight, and The Last Titan. Eclipse is not a fourth expansion or a separate game. It closes the main content phase of Midnight before the saga moves into its final chapter.

What comes first: 12.1.5 and the 12.1.7 bridge

Update 12.1.5 arrived on American-region realms on October 13 and concludes the threat arc in Quel’Thalas and Zul’Aman that began with Ula’tek. Its campaign, The Promise of Tomorrow, leads into the confrontation with Kith’ix, a C’Thraxxi general imprisoned by the Amani. The update includes the single-boss raid The Unbinding of Kith’ix, the nine-chamber Labyrinth of Kindo’jan, Aqir Invasions, and a mid-Season 2 refresh. This is released content, not an Eclipse preview.

The next step is 12.1.7, named Echoes of the Worldcore in Blizzard’s PTR notes and Ecos do Núcleo in its Brazilian materials. Under development on the test realm in October, its campaign, The Return to Dornogal, investigates how to pass through the damaged Coreway and reach the Worldcore after Xal’atath’s breach. Arator, Brinthe, Dagran, and Brann take part in this search. The update was also announced as the arrival of Talebound, a PvE mode built around themed adventures. Those preparations belong to 12.1.7, not 12.2.

What Blizzard has confirmed for Eclipse

The focus of 12.2 is the approach to the Worldsoul. Blizzard has shown a journey through concealed Titan chambers and a Light-versus-Void offensive against Xal’atath. Beyond the promise of a climax, several specific features have been announced:

  • The Mantle Vault: a new underground zone hidden by the Titans. The Thraegar, crystalline dwarflike beings, will be allies. The Deepskar Empire, made up of several subterranean peoples, is another local force and has not been presented as an automatic ally.
  • The Gearhold and Thraegar’s Stand: the first is the lair of Noctinaxx, an azerite bat encountered as a boss; the second is a new three-boss dungeon that will join the Season 3 Mythic+ rotation.
  • The Worldcore: a new eight-boss raid involving Titan constructs, Void enemies, living Azerite, and an announced encounter with Xal’atath. The legendary caster dagger Midnight’s Edge will require a series of steps tied to the raid; it is not the Blade of the Black Empire.
  • Activities and progression: Radiant Screams in the open world and Agony difficulty for Prey. Shortly after Eclipse launches, Season 3 will bring a new Mythic+ pool, new Delve challenges, and competitive rewards.
  • Other changes: Night Elves, Forsaken, and Trolls will be able to become Paladins. Housing will gain Showcases, mannequins, and decorating tools; Blizzard has also announced a Calibration Chamber for combat practice and a new PvP Journey.

How this story prepares The Last Titan

The connection works on two levels. In the story, Midnight moves from the conflicts in Quel’Thalas and Zul’Aman into Azeroth’s depths and a direct struggle for its Worldsoul. Titan structures, new allies, and the announced battle with Xal’atath establish the questions that the next expansion will have to address. This is an interpretation of the progression Blizzard has outlined, not a prediction of the raid’s outcome.

As for The Last Titan, the company has confirmed that it will be the last chapter of the Worldsoul Saga and linked its story to a return to Northrend. At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard said more information would arrive in early 2027, after the events of Eclipse. That announcement did not reveal the resolution of Xal’atath’s conflict, the complete campaign structure, or an exact launch day for the expansion.

What remains unconfirmed

The Eclipse announcement provides a patch number, zones, activities, and narrative direction, but no exact release date. It also does not justify treating Xal’atath’s ultimate fate or unseen events from The Last Titan as established facts. “Final major update” does not mean that every smaller Midnight patch ends with 12.2: Blizzard has already mentioned a future 12.2.5, including changes to transmog restrictions. The clearest roadmap is therefore 12.1.5 available, 12.1.7 in testing, Eclipse announced, and The Last Titan still ahead.
