Absolute Justice: which heroes are involved and what should you read first?

DC has confirmed six heroes for Absolute Justice, a five-issue miniseries planned for 2027 with no tie-ins. Here's the announced lineup and a selective guide to useful background comics, without inventing mandatory reading.

Absolute Justice will bring together six characters from DC's Absolute Universe: Martian Manhunter will summon Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and Jo Mullein, this reality's Green Lantern. The official announcement, published on October 16, 2026 following New York Comic Con, describes a five-issue miniseries written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Juan Ferreyra, planned for 2027.

The most useful detail for readers who want to follow the crossover without buying dozens of comics is straightforward: DC has confirmed that Absolute Justice will have no tie-ins and will not interrupt the ongoing series. Readers can choose background stories that interest them, but the publisher has not issued a list of mandatory reading before the event.

Which heroes are confirmed for Absolute Justice?

DC's official presentation names six participants. Martian Manhunter is not merely another team member: he is the one who calls the others together for a case that has not yet been explained in detail. That establishes the announced starting point, not the outcome of the mission or a permanent Justice League lineup.

  • Martian Manhunter: brings the group together. Readers can meet this distinct incarnation in Absolute Martian Manhunter, by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez.
  • Superman: joins the announced gathering, with his alternate origin explored in Absolute Superman, launched by Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval.
  • Batman: is among those summoned and stars in Absolute Batman, launched by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta.
  • Wonder Woman: takes part in the gathering and is reinvented in Absolute Wonder Woman, by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman.
  • The Flash: the announced speedster belongs to the Absolute line; Absolute Flash follows this universe's Wally West, written by Jeff Lemire with art by Nick Robles.
  • Jo Mullein, Green Lantern: DC specifically named Jo, rather than an unspecified Green Lantern. She is central to Absolute Green Lantern, by Al Ewing and Jahnoy Lindsay.

Other heroes and villains may exist across the imprint's stories, but that does not confirm their involvement in the miniseries. The names above are the characters explicitly announced by DC as of October 20, 2026.

What to read first: a short route without invented requirements

The order below is an editorial reading suggestion, not an official DC checklist. It focuses on the person assembling the heroes, an issue establishing a coalition of villains, and an earlier encounter between two confirmed participants. If you prefer to start with Absolute Justice #1 when it arrives, DC's announced no-tie-in approach does not require you to collect extra crossover chapters in other titles.

Suggested priorityComicWhat it addsRequired by DC?
Optional first pickAbsolute Martian Manhunter #1, or volume 1 (#1-6)Introduces the version of the character who will assemble the heroes. No
Antagonist contextAbsolute Evil #1Shows powerful figures coordinating in response to the growing presence of superheroes in the Absolute Universe. No

Individual originsAbsolute Superman #1, Absolute Flash #1, and Absolute Green Lantern #1Introduce three confirmed participants separately, including the storyline that brings in Jo Mullein. No
Imprint backgroundDC All In Special #1Explains the creation of the Absolute Universe and its connection to DC's core continuity. No

If you are very short on time, choose Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 to get to know the character issuing the call. If you also want to understand why an alliance of antagonists matters in this world, add Absolute Evil #1. Neither choice is an official prerequisite for the miniseries.

Why are Absolute Evil and Batman's encounter with Diana useful?

Released in October 2025, Absolute Evil #1 depicts figures including Ra’s al Ghul, Veronica Cale, Elenore Thawne, Hector Hammond, and the Joker moving toward an alliance. It offers a useful picture of the power structure surrounding the heroes. However, characters named in that issue's synopsis should not automatically be counted among the villains of Absolute Justice: DC has not announced such a match.

Absolute Wonder Woman #15, released in December 2025, brings Diana to Gotham and documents her encounter with Batman. The story continues in Absolute Batman #16, released in January 2026. Reading them in that order provides a concrete example of how separate character journeys have already intersected ahead of the new event. It still does not make them required chapters of the miniseries.

What about the ongoing Batman, Superman, Flash, and Green Lantern series?

They remain stories in their own right. DC explicitly stated that the crossover will have no tie-ins and will not interrupt ongoing titles. There is therefore no basis for presenting the complete runs of Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman, Absolute Wonder Woman, Absolute Flash, or Absolute Green Lantern as entry requirements.

If you want to get acquainted with a particular hero, issue #1 of their series or an opening collected edition makes for a practical option. Readers interested in Jo Mullein can try the first Absolute Green Lantern volume, which collects issues #1-6; those drawn to the Flash can meet Wally West in the first Absolute Flash volume, also collecting #1-6. These are background recommendations, not hidden installments of the event.

It also helps to separate the Absolute Universe from DC's main continuity. DC All In Special #1 explains how this reality came into being, but that does not mean you must read the entire Absolute Power storyline or the regular Justice League Unlimited series to follow the six characters in Absolute Justice.

When will Absolute Justice release, and what remains unconfirmed?

DC has announced the crossover for 2027. An October 9, 2026 ComicBook.com report pointed to April 2027 as the expected start, but the official DC announcement consulted here does not specify an exact release day. April should therefore be treated as a reported projection, not as a confirmed Brazilian release date or a definitive schedule.

DC has also not published an official required-reading list or individual Brazilian release dates for the five issues. What is confirmed is the gathering of the six named characters, the creative team of Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra, the five-issue format, and the absence of tie-ins. Exactly how the ongoing stories relate to the miniseries' plot can only be fully assessed once the event has been published.
