Yes: Forza Horizon 6 saves will be able to follow players from Xbox Series X|S or PC, including Steam, to PS5. Playground Games has confirmed cross-save as well as cross-platform multiplayer. The commitment is to preserve progress within the Forza Horizon 6 campaign so players do not have to start from scratch. That is not the same as transferring DLC purchases or automatically receiving a game license in another storefront.
The PS5 version is scheduled for January 21, 2027 through Premium Edition early access and January 26, 2027 for the Standard and Deluxe editions. The latest confirmation came on October 8, 2026. Before release, details are still missing about account linking, synchronization conflicts, trophies, and ownership of content bought from different stores.
Which Xbox and Steam saves transfer to PS5?
The announced support covers player progress in Forza Horizon 6 across Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox PC version from Microsoft Store, Steam, and PS5. Playground also names SteamOS devices and compatible handhelds when explaining that cross-save keeps progress available wherever the game can be played. Players who begin the campaign on Xbox or Steam can therefore continue on PS5 once that edition launches, subject to any access and account requirements published by then.
The announcement concerns continuity of the Forza Horizon 6 profile and progression. It does not provide an item-by-item technical list confirming how individual cars, credits, settings, seasonal items, or local files will migrate in every case. Nor does it announce importing Forza Horizon 5 saves: the confirmed compatibility links versions of the sixth game, not different games in the series.
Cross-save, multiplayer, creations, and DLC: what is confirmed?
| Feature | Status as of October 22, 2026 | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Forza Horizon 6 progression | Confirmed | Cross-save among Xbox, Microsoft Store PC, Steam, and PS5. An item-by-item inventory breakdown has not been published. |
| Cross-platform multiplayer | Confirmed | Cross-play among the named versions. Online console multiplayer on PS5 requires PlayStation Plus, sold separately. |
| Community creations | Confirmed | Shared content can be accessed across platforms, including EventLab races, liveries, and tuning setups. |
| DLC purchases across Steam, Xbox, and PS5 | Not confirmed | Cross-save does not establish that expansions, passes, or extras purchased in one store unlock without another purchase elsewhere. |
| Xbox and Microsoft Store PC license | Confirmed within Xbox Play Anywhere | Eligible digital purchases cover Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft Store on Windows, including saves and DLC entitlements on those versions; Steam and PS5 are outside that guarantee. |
| PS5 trophies and synchronization procedures | Not detailed | There is no specific confirmation of retroactive trophy unlocks or an official step-by-step process for resolving save conflicts. |
Do EventLab creations and customizations work across platforms too?
Yes. The company has confirmed cross-platform compatibility for player-created content. Its published list includes EventLab races, prefabs, garages, estates, car liveries, and tuning setups. That allows the PS5 community to find and use creations shared by players already on Xbox or PC, and the other way around.
There is a difference between accessing shared content and guaranteeing that every creator's private project, draft, or local editing file will automatically appear on a different machine. The announcement confirms broad community-content compatibility without documenting that specific workflow. Likewise, player-created items should not be confused with paid expansions.
Does buying Premium or DLC on Xbox or Steam unlock it on PS5?
There is no official promise of universal purchase transfer across these stores. The documented exception is Xbox Play Anywhere: an eligible digital purchase within the Xbox/Microsoft Store ecosystem on Windows grants access to both participating versions, together with the saved profile and associated DLC entitlements, without buying them again. Playground explicitly says Steam is not part of Xbox Play Anywhere, and the feature does not announce a free PS5 license either.
The first Premium Expansion is scheduled for January 21, 2027 on all platforms. It is included in the Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, and Expansions Bundle, and can also be purchased separately. Premium Upgrade requires the separately sold base game; a second expansion is planned for later, with no date supplied in the announcement. Those terms explain which editions contain extra content, but do not prove that a purchase from one storefront will be honored by another.
When does each PS5 edition launch?
| PS5 edition | Announced start | Highlighted contents |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Edition | January 21, 2027 (early access) | Full game, VIP, Welcome Pack, Car Pass, two car packs, and Expansions 1 and 2. |
| Deluxe Edition | January 26, 2027 | Full game, Welcome Pack, and Car Pass. |
| Standard Edition | January 26, 2027 | Full base game. |
A physical PS5 edition is also planned for participating retailers. Pre-ordering any PS5 edition includes a pre-tuned Ferrari J50, added after completing the prologue. These are the dates announced by the company, with the Standard Edition date also shown on the Brazilian storefront consulted; they do not guarantee physical stock in every region or a specific unlocking hour.
Should you start on Xbox or Steam now and move to PS5 later?
For anyone who wants to play Forza Horizon 6 before January, starting on an already available platform is an option supported by the cross-save announcement: the Xbox and PC editions launched in May 2026, while the PS5 edition is still upcoming. In February, Liam Croft at Push Square had already highlighted this approach of getting a head start on the campaign without losing progress when the Sony version arrives.
Before paying for a second edition, separate three decisions: saving progress, having the right to run the game on the new storefront, and owning its DLC there. They are different issues. Steam lists a Microsoft account requirement to play and use cross-platform features, but October's announcement does not provide a complete PlayStation-account linking tutorial. Check official instructions when the PS5 release is available, and do not assume trophies, licenses, or every local file will be converted automatically.
