Does Helldivers 2 have cross-save? What you leave behind when switching PC, PS5 or Xbox

Helldivers 2 lets you play with friends on other platforms but does not transfer progress, Warbonds, DLC or bonuses between accounts. Here is how cross-play differs from cross-save and cross-buy.

If you switch from PC to PS5 or Xbox, or move in the opposite direction, you cannot carry your Helldivers 2 progress over to the new platform. According to official guidance updated by Arrowhead Game Studios on October 21, 2026, the game supports cross-play between PC, PlayStation and Xbox, but does not support cross-save, cross-progression or cross-buy. Linking Steam and PlayStation Network (PSN) does not copy your game data either.

This does not mean changing devices automatically deletes your original profile. The issue is that the account used on the new platform does not receive the unlocks, Warbonds, downloadable content or rewards associated with your previous account. The restriction also applies when trying to transfer data between two different accounts on the same platform.

Cross-play, cross-save and cross-buy are not the same

Being able to play with someone on another system is easily confused with being able to continue with the same inventory. In Helldivers 2, that difference matters:

FeatureStatus in Helldivers 2What it means
Cross-playAvailable on PC, PS5 and XboxPlayers on these platforms can join games together.
Cross-save or cross-progressionNot availableAccount progress does not follow you to another platform.
Cross-buyNot availableAccess to the game on one platform does not automatically include the version on another.
Steam and PSN account linkingAvailableLinks the accounts but does not synchronize characters, items or game data.

What cannot be transferred to another platform or account?

The official policy offers no migration tool. This table shows what that means if you have already invested time or money in the game:

What you ownWhat happens on the other account
Levels, experience and unlocksThey are not copied. Progress on the new account is independent.
Previously purchased WarbondsThey do not carry over, and support cannot grant them again as part of a transfer request.
Warbond rewardsCompleted pages and equipment you have already claimed are not migrated.
Armor, weapons, capes and other cosmeticsItems associated with the original account do not automatically appear on the new one.
Pre-order bonuses and commemorative itemsThese do not carry over either. Arrowhead specifically mentions pre-order armor and limited-time content.
DLC and special-edition contentContent tied to the other account is not transferred, including the kind of extras bundled in editions such as Super Citizen.
Game licenseThere is no cross-buy. You need access to the relevant version on the platform where you want to play.

There is a useful distinction with Warbonds: Helldivers Mobilize, the standard Warbond, is available free to every new player. That does not restore items or pages unlocked earlier. Premium Warbonds, meanwhile, use Super Credits and have their own progression based on War Medals. The lack of transfers applies both to previously acquired access and to unlocks associated with the original profile.

Will linking Steam and PSN transfer your progress?

No. In support instructions updated on October 16, 2026, Arrowhead describes linking a Steam account to PSN using a QR code or the link shown when launching the game on PC. The procedure identifies and associates your sign-in credentials; it does not turn two copies of the game into a single progression profile.

In practical terms, someone who bought Warbonds and earned armor on Steam cannot simply sign in on PS5 using the same PSN account and find all of that content there. The reverse is also true for players who started on console and later moved to PC. Official support says it cannot merge profiles, move equipment or re-grant items and Warbonds from another account, with no exceptions.

The same rule applies to changing accounts on one platform. Creating another user on PS5, for example, is not a way to transfer the previous user's inventory. That is different from simply continuing to play on the profile that already holds the progress.

Before switching between PC, PS5 and Xbox

  • Decide which account will be your main one before spending more time earning levels, resources and unlocks.
  • Check that you have access to the game on the destination platform; your previous purchase does not include cross-buy.
  • Consider what it would cost to obtain desired Warbonds or DLC again on the destination account; linking Steam and PSN does not unlock previous purchases.
  • If you want to keep rare bonuses, pre-order armor or commemorative rewards, be aware that Arrowhead does not offer to restore them to another account through support.

Is Arrowhead planning to add cross-save?

In its guidance updated on October 21, 2026, the studio says it has no plans to implement cross-progression at this time. That is its stated position on that date, not a guarantee about every future decision. The document also makes no promise that the feature will be released.

Arrowhead's general FAQ, updated in September 2026, still has an older platform list mentioning Steam and PS5. For current Xbox support and transfer rules, the newer, dedicated article takes precedence because it explicitly mentions PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Vandal's guide from August 2026 reaches the same conclusion about the absence of cross-save.

The practical takeaway is straightforward: you can fight alongside friends on other platforms, but your Helldiver career does not move with you. Before switching, treat the destination account as a separate profile, including for purchases and rewards.
