No. Jin Sakai is playable again in Ghost of Yōtei, but he is not part of Atsu's main campaign. The Ghost of Tsushima protagonist appears in Most Wanted, a single-player mode released with the Complete Edition on October 1, 2026, in Brazil. The story expansion Echoes of Sekigahara, meanwhile, continues to follow Atsu.
The key distinction is between controlling a character in combat challenges and seeing that character take part in the plot. Sucker Punch confirmed the former for Jin, but did not announce a new campaign starring him or a story encounter between Jin and Atsu.
Why doesn't this return change the main story?
Ghost of Yōtei takes place several centuries after Ghost of Tsushima and follows Atsu's revenge journey across Ezo. In an FAQ published before the original release, Sucker Punch explained that the game was not a direct sequel to Jin's story and that he did not appear in that campaign. The studio added that the original Ghost's legend lived on.
The September 2026 announcement did not change that premise. Jin joined Most Wanted, a separate mode built around replayable runs and its own progression. Being playable there does not confirm that he survived for centuries within the story timeline, traveled to meet Atsu, or became part of the base campaign's events.
Main campaign, Most Wanted, expansion and Legends: what's different?
| Content | Format and focus | Jin Sakai's role |
|---|---|---|
| Original campaign | Atsu's adventure and her quest for revenge in Ezo. | Not a playable lead or an announced narrative return in the campaign. |
| Most Wanted | Single-player survival bounties with enemy waves, perks and rising difficulty. | One of four playable characters, once unlocked. |
| Echoes of Sekigahara | Story expansion about Atsu, Nagato, memories of the battle and events in Ezo. | Not announced as a participant in the expansion's plot. |
| Ghost of Yōtei Legends | Separate online cooperative mode for up to four players. | Sucker Punch's announced Jin return is for Most Wanted, not Legends. |
How do you unlock Jin in Most Wanted?
Atsu is the mode's starting character. Oyuki and Nagato round out the four-person roster alongside her and Jin. Players begin by selecting a target from the bounty board; each run features enemy waves and minibosses before the final target. During a run, players select temporary perks. Between runs, they spend the currency called Mon on lasting upgrades and progression toward more playable hunters.
- Open Most Wanted through the Complete Edition, or purchase the relevant upgrade if you already own the base game.
- Start hunting as Atsu, complete challenges and earn Mon.
- Spend Mon between runs on techniques, weapons, charms and other upgrades while following the character-unlock progression.
- Once Jin becomes available on the hunter selection screen, choose him for any bounties you have unlocked.
Two October guides give different spending thresholds: Video Games Chronicle lists 30,000 Mon spent, whereas KeenGamer lists 28,800. Sucker Punch's official announcement does not specify an exact figure. It is therefore safer to check the requirement displayed in your installed version rather than present either number as a universal official rule. Simply saving Mon without spending it is not the unlock method described in those guides.
Which Ghost of Tsushima abilities does Jin retain?
His combat style is designed to evoke the original game. In Most Wanted, Jin uses a katana with all four Ghost of Tsushima stances, plus a Sticky Bomb and a short hankyu bow. His Ultimate is Dance of Wrath, while his special Kill Streak activates Ghost Stance.
Those features let players use attacks and tactics associated with Jin, but within the survival mode's rules. Cosmetics earned there can also be worn by Atsu in the campaign and Echoes of Sekigahara. The Sakai Armor is a visual nod to Jin's family: equipping it on Atsu neither turns her into Jin nor places him in the main plot.
What is Echoes of Sekigahara about?
Echoes of Sekigahara expands Atsu's story across two periods: memories of her role in the Battle of Sekigahara on mainland Japan and later events in Ezo. The connection between those timelines involves Nagato, who fought alongside her in the past and crosses her path again.
In Ezo, the expansion takes Atsu to the Ashoro Foothills and into conflict with the Vipers. PlayStation describes new weapons, enemies, abilities, armor and activities in this area. It is a story continuation for Atsu, separate from Most Wanted's replayable bounties. The official reveal does not assign Jin a role in that narrative.
Which edition includes Jin's return in Brazil?
Both additions launched for PS5 on October 1, 2026, in Brazil, with update 2.0. According to PlayStation, some other territories, including parts of Asia, Australia and New Zealand, received them on October 2. Those regional differences should not be mistaken for a second Brazilian release date.
- New players: Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition bundles the campaign, Legends, Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara.
- Base-game owners: the Brazilian PlayStation Store offers the Complete Edition Upgrade, which adds the new content. This is a paid product, and its store price can change.
- Players who install only the free patch: they receive features such as Beauty of Yōtei, additional Watanabe Mode tracks, and appearance and accessibility options; that patch alone does not grant access to Most Wanted or the story expansion.
Jin's mode is single-player, unlike the online cooperative Legends, which requires PlayStation Plus for online play. PlayStation also specifies that downloading the new content requires a PlayStation account and an internet connection. The early Sakai Armor unlock offer applied to digital preorders made by September 30, 2026; it did not mean Jin had joined the main campaign.
So the answer depends on what “return” means: Jin is playable in Most Wanted, while both the original campaign and its story expansion remain focused on Atsu. An appearance by Jin as a story character in Ghost of Yōtei has not been officially confirmed.
