Path of Exile 2: Why PS5 Purchases Are Missing on PC and Xbox

Path of Exile 2 characters and progress carry across PS5, PC, and Xbox, but PlayStation purchases have restrictions. Here is how cosmetics, remove-only stash tabs, and sub-accounts work.

In Path of Exile 2, cross-save carries characters and progress between PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S, but it does not automatically unlock purchases made on PlayStation outside the PlayStation ecosystem. Grinding Gear Games (GGG) separates the right to use microtransactions from saved progression: cosmetics, points, and stash tabs purchased on PS5 are not usable on PC or Xbox, even when the accounts are linked. The restriction works in the opposite direction as well.

Purchases can be shared between PC and Xbox, provided the correct account and sub-account are being used. The developer described this distinction in its November 2024 account-system update, and it remains the documented rule considered in this check on October 23, 2026.

Why doesn't cross-save unlock PS5 purchases?

Cross-play, cross-save, and shared purchases are different permissions. Cross-play lets people play together across platforms. Cross-save lets a player resume a character on another device. Purchase sharing depends on where a microtransaction was bought and which sub-account owns it. GGG explicitly states that purchases made on PlayStation platforms cannot be used elsewhere, and purchases made elsewhere cannot be used on PlayStation.

This does not mean that the character or items normally acquired during gameplay have been deleted. The restriction concerns access to purchased content. The official announcement establishes the exception but does not provide a detailed contractual explanation of its origin. Blaming Sony exclusively as if that commercial explanation were documented in the announcement would therefore go beyond the evidence.

PS5, PC, and Xbox: what works across each pair?

The table summarizes account and microtransaction policies; it does not promise that every Path of Exile 1 cosmetic has already been implemented in the sequel. GGG's FAQ explains that some cosmetics required game-specific adaptation.

Why do stash tabs appear as “remove-only”?

A tab purchased on one platform may remain visible when the player logs in elsewhere, but switch to remove-only mode if the destination platform does not recognize the purchase. In that mode, existing items may be taken out, but new items cannot be deposited in that tab. GGG describes this behavior in its official early-access FAQ.

For example, a player who bought a premium tab on PS5 and then opened the same sub-account on PC may see the tab and its contents without being allowed to use it as active storage. That is not the same as the inventory disappearing. Nor does it guarantee that every tab will behave identically after every update. Check the original purchase platform before buying another tab.

Linking accounts is not the same as combining sub-accounts

GGG introduced sub-accounts to bring different logins under one profile. When two accounts are merged, each sub-account's characters remain separate. Players can switch between them using the selector on the character-selection screen. A microtransaction belongs to the sub-account where it was purchased; connecting Steam, PlayStation Network, or Xbox logins under one profile does not automatically move characters or purchases between sub-accounts.

PC and Xbox have the more flexible arrangement. GGG says microtransactions bought on those platforms can be used on both by choosing the sub-account that owns them. For separate accounts, support may assess a one-time transfer of microtransactions between sub-accounts; characters do not move with them. This procedure does not remove PlayStation's cross-platform restriction and should not be presented as an automatic fix.

What to check when a purchase or character is missing

  1. Confirm where the purchase was made. If it was on PS5 and you are now on PC or Xbox, an unusable cosmetic or remove-only tab matches the official restriction.
  2. Check the selected profile and sub-account. Look for the sub-account selector on the character-selection screen. Characters in another sub-account have not necessarily been deleted.
  3. Review account connections. In the account area of the official website, confirm that PC and console logins are connected to the intended account. Do not merge or unlink profiles through trial and error.
  4. Distinguish an entitlement issue from an implementation issue. An older Path of Exile 1 cosmetic may also be unavailable in Path of Exile 2 because a compatible version has not yet been implemented, which differs from the PlayStation restriction.
  5. Contact GGG support if the accounts are incorrect. A developer representative explained that improperly linked PC and Xbox accounts may need assistance. Keep receipts and account identifiers available for the request, without assuming a refund or migration is guaranteed.

Path of Exile 1 and early-access entitlements are different cases

GGG allows compatible microtransactions to be used in both Path of Exile 1 and Path of Exile 2, subject to platform restrictions. However, that does not give the first game's characters cross-save support: GGG says Path of Exile 1 does not offer this feature between console and PC.

There is also a difference between client access and purchased content. Under the early-access system that began on December 6, 2024, entry entitlements were platform-specific. Buying a pack on PS5 did not automatically give a player early access on PC or Xbox. For PC, the FAQ described Steam and Epic client keys for players already eligible for access within the PC ecosystem. This describes early-access rules, not a permanent purchase requirement following any future free-to-play release.

The practical distinction: if your character loads normally on PC but a skin or stash tab purchased on PS5 cannot be used, cross-save is working. The limitation concerns purchase entitlements. If even your characters are missing, investigate the selected sub-account and account links first.
