Spoiler warning: this article reveals Grid's early class change in Overgeared and an event from chapter 2 of the original novel. Its anime coverage is limited to episodes announced or released by October 28, 2026.

Grid loses his levels because Pagma's book grants him a legendary blacksmith class at the price of resetting his previous progression in Satisfy. In the original novel, using the book drops him from level 73 to level 1. His later fall to level -1 has a different cause: a death penalty. The initial reset is therefore neither a game bug nor a punishment for practicing blacksmithing.

Why does the legendary class require a fresh start?

Grid begins Satisfy as an unremarkable warrior. During a quest, he finds Pagma's rare book, which contains the knowledge of a legendary blacksmith. By using it, he becomes Pagma's Successor and unlocks a hidden class far rarer than his previous occupation.

The cost goes beyond accumulated experience. In chapter 2 of Saenal's web novel, published in English under license by Wuxiaworld, the system notifications establish that his level, previous stats and skills are reset. That is why Grid is so frustrated: the reward offers a powerful specialization while wiping away the immediate advantage of his earlier warrior progression. The official manhwa descriptions from Tappytoon and Yen Press also connect the book directly to the reset.

This is a rule attached to this particular class change, not evidence that every profession or class advancement in Satisfy necessarily erases a player's levels. Extending the rule to all players would go beyond the sources reviewed.

Level 1, zero and -1 are not the same thing

Chapter 2 of the novel gives a precise sequence. Grid is level 73 before changing classes. Activating the book sets him to level 1. Still in danger, he is then killed, loses another two levels as a penalty and ends up at level -1. His death is a separate event from obtaining the legendary class.

The commercial descriptions on Tappytoon and Crunchyroll, meanwhile, use shorthand such as starting over from zero or having his stats reset to zero. That conveys the general idea of starting again, but it does not replace the numerical sequence set out in the novel. Nor does it prove that every interface value is identical across all versions of the adaptation.

What does Grid gain in return?

Grid is not trading levels for a prestigious title alone. The same novel chapter describes new class-related attributes and access to blacksmithing abilities involving equipment crafting, appraisal, repair and disassembly. Some of the new abilities are legendary, while his previous warrior skill set no longer carries over.

That contrast drives the premise: Grid becomes vulnerable in the short term but gains tools for making and improving extraordinary items. Tappytoon's official manhwa summary likewise identifies powerful equipment crafting as his new route to competing in Satisfy. Long-term potential does not mean that his former strength is restored immediately.

What does the 2026 anime actually establish?

The first season began its Japanese television broadcast on October 2, 2026, following an announced early streaming start on September 27, with Crunchyroll carrying the anime. The episode 1 description confirms Grid's discovery of Pagma's tome. Episode 2's synopsis presents his first steps in learning blacksmithing. Subsequent official summaries describe an item-crafting showdown in episode 4 and an armor auction in episode 5, released on Crunchyroll on October 25.

These official records support the opening storyline of the discovery and his work as a blacksmith. The exact progression of 73, 1 and -1, as well as the detailed list of skills awarded, is directly documented in the novel chapter consulted. Streaming synopses alone are not enough to claim that the anime's finished episodes reproduce every system message or mechanical detail. The anime, manhwa and web novel are related versions, but they are not interchangeable evidence for each scene.

Novel, manhwa and anime: where to verify the rule

The original story is Saenal's web novel, with the author also credited as Park Saenal, available in licensed English translation on Wuxiaworld. The manhwa was adapted by Monohumbug of REDICE STUDIO and illustrated by Team Argo, with official releases on Tappytoon and in collected Yen Press volumes. The 2026 anime is produced by J.C.STAFF and listed on Crunchyroll, which includes Brazilian Portuguese audio and subtitles.

For the central question, the official presentations agree: the book granting the legendary class resets Grid's progression. For the exact numbers and the death penalty responsible for the negative level, the verifiable source is chapter 2 of the novel. Keeping those two events apart is what prevents the cost of the transformation from being confused with the consequences of the subsequent defeat.
