Yes. If you have already watched the credits for Hades II’s true ending, you can experience the version expanded by Patch 1, released on October 31, 2025, without starting a new save file. The solution is the Cauldron incantation Returning to a Real Possibility, which becomes available shortly after that ending. It rewinds essential story events to an earlier point along both routes while retaining most character progression.

Light spoiler warning: the steps below mention the structure of both routes and progress requirements but do not reveal the story’s resolution. A separate warning precedes narrative details.

How to replay the ending on the same save

First, make sure Hades II has Patch 1 or a subsequent update installed. Supergiant confirmed that Patch 1 went live for all players on October 31, 2025; you do not need to opt into the prerelease preview branch.

  1. On the save you want to keep, reach the true ending and watch its end-credit sequence. This incantation is not described as a shortcut for players who have not reached that milestone.
  2. Go to the Cauldron at the Crossroads and look for the incantation called Returning to a Real Possibility in the English patch notes. Its displayed name may differ in other language settings.
  3. Read the in-game explanation of the reset before casting it. This is an optional action that changes the state of major story events.
  4. Continue through the necessary encounters and the Underworld route to experience the revised scenes leading to the true ending.

Supergiant’s patch notes do not describe an instant menu option to replay the entire credits sequence. This feature lets you replay a portion of the story, rather than simply selecting a cutscene.

What resets, and what stays on your save?

In a public reply on Steam, a Supergiant developer explained that the incantation returns the narrative to a point where the protagonist has already confronted the final Guardians of both routes but has not defeated either. Your adventure does not start again from the beginning.

The reset affects story-critical progression. Existing character bonds, unlocked and upgraded weapon Aspects, and Arcana remain, among other gains. The developer specifically says that “most” other progress is preserved, not that every conceivable state is guaranteed to remain untouched.

There is a concrete exception: any Zodiac Sand or Void Lenses you hold become unavailable until you complete the true ending again. That does not mean those resources are permanently deleted. The game explains the consequences before you confirm the reset.

What exactly changed in the Patch 1 true ending?

Version 1.0, released on September 25, 2025, already included a true ending. Patch 1 did not introduce a second epilogue. Instead, it added story events before and after the true ending, revised major pre-credits scenes, and introduced new artwork, animation, and voice lines.

The notes identify new narrative events involving Chronos, Zagreus, Hecate, and Hades on the way to the ending, plus later events featuring those characters and Persephone. Most of the changes concern the Underworld route; the Surface route remains largely unchanged. In other words, the ending’s buildup and presentation were expanded, but the notes do not establish a separate, selectable alternate conclusion.

The number of successful Underworld clears required for the true ending increased. Supergiant did not provide a universal new numerical requirement in the patch notes, so promising a fixed run count would be misleading. In parallel, certain Fated Prophecy events received higher priority to unfold sooner, including some connected to the later stages of the story.

In his October 31, 2025 GameSpot report, Blair Marnell likewise identified the additional ending content, the greater Underworld-clear requirement, and the new method of revisiting the story without a fresh save.

The incantation is missing: what should you check?

First, distinguish having defeated bosses from having completed the true ending and watched its credits on that save. According to the developer’s official reply, the incantation appears shortly after the credits. If you have not reached that stage, continue playing normally.

If the credits have played, check that your game is updated and inspect the Cauldron at the Crossroads. Do not confuse Returning to a Real Possibility with another incantation, a Fated Prophecy, or the option to create a new save.

The cited official material supplies no universal ingredient recipe, fixed number of nights before the incantation appears, or guaranteed way to force its trigger immediately. If an eligible, updated save still lacks it, document the game version and report the behavior through support instead of deleting your progress based on an unverified workaround.

The true ending and the epilogue are different

For Patch 1, Supergiant explicitly said the story epilogue was unchanged. The increased Underworld-clear requirement concerns the road to the true ending, while event-priority adjustments can make some Prophecies progress sooner. Neither point means Patch 1 rewrote the epilogue.

Version context matters: Patch 2, released on April 14, 2026, added narrated conclusions to several Prophecies and made the narrated closing scene of Melinoë, Help Us rewatchable from the Fated List. That later feature for one epilogue-related scene is not a substitute for the Cauldron incantation that replays the path to the true ending. Other updates may also affect interface details or story-event behavior.

Story spoilers: where does the replay begin?

Warning: this section reveals the protagonist’s position in both routes and names characters involved in late-game events.

The Cauldron sends Melinoë back to a point after she has confronted the Guardian at the end of each route, but before either has been defeated. From that point, the path to the true ending unfolds again. Patch 1 expanded events involving Chronos, Zagreus, Hecate, and Hades, with additional post-ending encounters that include Persephone.

The published notes identify the characters and broad sections affected, but they do not supply a scene-by-scene script comparison. They cannot support a precise reconstruction of every altered dialogue line or an assumption about the writers’ intent beyond the changes they announced.
