Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers in 2027: expiry dates and eligible games

Voucher sales ended in January 2026, but each purchased voucher remains valid for 365 days. Here is how to check expiration, membership, region and eligible titles.

Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers purchased before sales ended remain valid for 365 days from the purchase date, provided they have not already been redeemed. In the Americas, including Brazil, Nintendo stopped selling them on January 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. January 30, 2027 is therefore only the expiration example for vouchers bought on the final sales day, not a universal deadline. Redeeming one still requires an active, paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and an eligible game from the purchase region.

When can a voucher still be redeemed in 2027?

The validity period starts when the two-voucher set was purchased, not when Nintendo ended the offer. According to its support documentation, each voucher expires one year, or 365 days, after purchase. The two vouchers do not have to be used together, and the exact expiry date is shown in the Nintendo Account.

Nintendo uses a purchase made on January 30, 2026 to illustrate vouchers valid until January 30, 2027. An earlier purchase means an earlier expiration date, as recorded in the account. Do not treat the 30th as a universal deadline or expect an automatic extension because your membership lapsed.

Decision checklist: what to check before a voucher expires

  1. Is the voucher in the correct account? Sign in with the Nintendo Account that bought the set. In the account Shop Menu, check the Nintendo Switch Online section for available vouchers and expiration dates. On Nintendo Switch, open Nintendo eShop, go to your profile and then Nintendo Switch Online; on Switch 2, open your eShop profile and scroll to the vouchers. If one has been redeemed, check purchase history.
  2. Is it still within its validity period? An expired voucher cannot normally be redeemed. Check the individual date displayed in your account before deciding to wait for a future game.
  3. Is your membership active and paid? A free trial or expired membership does not qualify. An active, paid individual or family membership meets the requirement. If your membership ended, you can start another one and redeem a still-valid voucher, but the time without membership does not extend its expiry date.
  4. Does the account country match the purchase region? Vouchers are redeemable only for games in the region where they were purchased. A catalog displayed for another country does not establish that your voucher is eligible there.
  5. Is the game in the eligible catalog? Check the official catalog for the country of purchase, rather than the general eShop storefront. Not every Nintendo Switch game can be redeemed with a voucher.
  6. Is it exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2? If so, it is ineligible. Using eShop on a Switch 2 console does not make a game exclusive to the newer hardware eligible for this program.
  7. Is it an upcoming release? The game must already be available for voucher-eligible pre-purchase. Nintendo also says the voucher must not expire before the game’s release date. If either condition fails, the practical alternative is to select another eligible title while the voucher is still valid.

Why are some games excluded after voucher sales have ended?

The offer allowed each voucher to be exchanged for one selected digital game in its catalog, not any game sold on eShop. The list varies by region, excludes Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive titles and can still gain new eligible Nintendo Switch games after January 30, 2026. The end of voucher sales did not freeze the eligible game list.

A title announced as eligible in the future does not become redeemable automatically before pre-purchase opens. That distinction matters if you are waiting for a new release: it might join the offer too late for your particular voucher, or its release date could fall after your voucher expires.

What if your membership ends or redemption fails?

An expired membership blocks redemption of an unused voucher, but does not immediately erase a voucher that has not yet expired. Nintendo allows redemption after a new paid membership starts, provided the voucher is still valid. A game already obtained with a voucher remains available to the Nintendo Account that redeemed it even after Nintendo Switch Online membership ends.

If redemption fails, Nintendo advises signing out of eShop or the website and signing back into the purchasing account, then checking whether the voucher was already used, membership status, account country, title eligibility and purchase history. A game already bought by that account may be downloaded again rather than purchased a second time. If the problem persists, use Nintendo’s official support.

What to do before January 2027

The safest approach is to open the voucher list in your Nintendo Account, note each individual expiration date and review eligible games for the region where you made the purchase. Vouchers were sold in pairs but can be redeemed separately. Sales ended in January 2026; what remains in 2027 is redemption of individual unused vouchers still within their 365-day validity period.
