Oasis documentaries compared: Supersonic, Knebworth 1996 and Don't Look Back In Anger

Compare three Oasis documentaries by the years they cover, archive footage, interviews, concerts and availability in Brazil. Find the right film for the early years, Knebworth or the 2025 reunion.

To learn how Oasis began, choose Supersonic (2016). To revisit their Knebworth shows, watch Oasis Knebworth 1996 (2021). To follow Liam and Noel Gallagher returning to the stage in 2025, pick Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger (2026). The three documentaries cover different chapters of the band rather than retelling the same story three times.

They also tell their stories differently: the first combines archival material and interviews to chart the early years; the second reconstructs a single weekend through fans' experiences; the third draws on new rehearsal, backstage and concert footage alongside interviews with the brothers following their reunion. This comparison is grounded in production documentation and published reporting, not a claim to have personally screened the films.

Supersonic: the story of Oasis becoming famous

Directed by Mat Whitecross and released in 2016, Supersonic follows the Manchester band's rapid ascent through its Knebworth concerts in 1996. The British Council's film database identifies the journey from the first single in 1994 to performances for 125,000 people per night two years later as its core narrative. The film looks at the early line-up, the speed of the breakthrough and tensions already present between the brothers.

This is about much more than live performances. It features rare footage, photographs and new testimony from people including Liam and Noel. In an October 2016 interview, Whitecross described holding lengthy, separate sessions with each brother. He also explained his decision to end the story at Knebworth: covering the entire history through the 2009 split would have made the film too superficial.

What to expect: a biography tightly focused on the early years, with room for the musicians' personalities, the story behind their rapid rise and the context of their first two albums. Supersonic does not try to examine the years after 1996 in depth, nor does it document the 2025 reunion.

Oasis Knebworth 1996: two days from the stage and the crowd

Jake Scott's film, released in 2021 to mark the shows' 25th anniversary, takes a much narrower approach. Its subject is August 10 and 11, 1996, at Knebworth Park in England. Sony Music says approximately 250,000 people attended across both days and tickets sold out in under 24 hours. It captures a peak moment in the band's popularity, not the whole career.

The edit combines archival concert and backstage images with the memories of those in attendance and interviews with band members and organisers. Sony's own description puts fans at the centre of the storytelling. That makes it particularly useful for understanding the event's size, the scramble for tickets, the atmosphere of 1996 and the bond audiences formed with songs such as Wonderwall, Live Forever and Don't Look Back in Anger.

One useful distinction: Oasis Knebworth 1996 is a documentary built around the concerts, with testimony and context. Its edited film should not be mistaken for an uninterrupted, complete recording of both individual shows. And this Knebworth story concerns the 1996 event, not the later reunion tour.

Don't Look Back In Anger: inside the 2025 reunion

The film released in 2026 follows Oasis Live ’25, the tour staged after Liam and Noel Gallagher resumed working together. Created by Steven Knight and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, it differs from the earlier films because significant footage was shot during rehearsals and concerts in 2025 itself.

According to Disney's official description, the crew recorded rehearsals, backstage moments and live performances, as well as joint interviews with the brothers after more than two decades without that kind of filmed documentary conversation. The emphasis is on the reunion and what it meant to the musicians and audiences, rather than a chronological account of every Oasis album.

Disney+ Brazil has carried the film since October 9, 2026, alongside additional material tied to its streaming release. Disney announced extra segments from the joint interview, full performances of Wonderwall and Slide Away, and performances of D'You Know What I Mean? and Half The World Away left out of the theatrical cut. These bonuses should not be confused with scenes contained in the main film.

How do the interviews differ across the three films?

The distinction is significant. Supersonic uses extensive retrospective interviews to explain the band's early development; Whitecross spoke to the Gallaghers separately. Knebworth 1996 draws on accounts tied to the event, particularly memories from fans, band members and organisers. Don't Look Back In Anger records the reunion as it happened, including joint interviews, rehearsals and interactions in a setting that did not yet exist when the other films were made.

The 2026 film's approach also divided critical opinion. In a September review, Variety praised the strength of the musical footage but argued that sentimental fan stories and the brothers' relatively guarded presentation limited the insight into their reconciliation. That is the publication's assessment, not a Dantverse review. The practical takeaway for viewers is that the film gives more space to experiencing the reunion than to comprehensively investigating past disputes.

What order should you watch them in?

A useful order is Supersonic → Oasis Knebworth 1996 → Don't Look Back In Anger. It begins with the formation and breakthrough, pauses at the landmark concerts in 1996, then jumps to the 2025 reunion. This is a viewing suggestion based on each film's period, not an official or mandatory series order.

  • I'm new to the band: start with Supersonic to learn the people, songs and tensions behind the big events.
  • I want the atmosphere of a classic gig: choose Knebworth 1996 for the most focused account of that live milestone.
  • I want to understand the comeback: Don't Look Back In Anger has the new footage and interviews surrounding 2025.

Where to watch in Brazil: confirmed availability

As checked on October 20, 2026, Disney+ Brazil listed Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger for subscribers. For Knebworth 1996, JustWatch's Brazilian guide listed digital purchase through the Apple TV Store and Amazon Video, with its catalogue information last updated in September 2026. A purchase listing does not mean the film is included with a subscription, and that offer may have changed since the service last checked.

For Supersonic, Netflix Brazil showed the title as unavailable in the country; the sources checked did not establish another currently available Brazilian subscription, rental or purchase option. That does not prove the film is absent from every digital storefront. Check the current Brazilian listing and purchase model before paying, since licensing differs by region and changes over time.

In short, the films complement one another: origin story, live high point and reunion. Pick the period of Oasis history that interests you most, and keep each documentary's release year separate from the year in which its events took place.
