Pokémon Champions and HOME: who can return, and when is training lost?

Learn which Pokémon can visit Champions through HOME, why recruited Pokémon cannot go back, and when training is restored or erased.

Pokémon brought from Pokémon HOME into Pokémon Champions can return to HOME, but training completed in Champions does not travel with them. If that same visitor comes back to the game in the same form, its Champions training is restored. The crucial exception is a return in a different form: the official rules say all previous Champions training is lost.

This round trip applies only to eligible HOME visitors. A Pokémon recruited inside Champions cannot be sent to the storage service. Whether a Pokémon is visiting or recruited, and which form it takes on its return, determines what happens.

Which Pokémon can enter and leave Pokémon Champions?

The Pokémon Company sets a basic condition: only Pokémon that appear in Pokémon Champions can visit from HOME. Storing a Pokémon in HOME, or obtaining it in a game such as Pokémon GO or Pokémon Legends: Z-A, does not by itself guarantee that it can enter Champions. Eligibility depends on the Pokémon currently supported by that game.

There is another distinction: HOME brings an eligible Pokémon into Champions as a visitor, whereas Champions itself lets players recruit teammates through Roster Ranch. These are different origins with different return rules. Returning to HOME should not be mistaken for automatic permission to go back to the Pokémon's original game, either: each game has its own restrictions.

Comparison: visitors, recruits, returns and form changes

SituationCan it return to HOME?Training and outcome
Pokémon in HOME that appears in ChampionsYes, as a visitor, and it can return to HOME.Training in Champions is separate from HOME data.
Pokémon in HOME that is not currently compatible with ChampionsIt cannot visit under those conditions. There is no Champions training to preserve.
Visitor returned to HOME and brought back in the same formYes, provided it remains eligible to visit.Previous Champions training is restored in that game.
Visitor that returns to Champions in a different formIt may return if the new form is eligible. All previous training done in Champions is erased.
Pokémon permanently recruited in ChampionsNo. It cannot be exported to HOME.It was obtained inside Champions, rather than visiting from HOME.
Pokémon on a trial recruitmentNo. It was recruited in Champions, not received from HOME.It cannot be trained during the trial period.

The table summarizes the cases covered by the official Pokémon Champions rules and support documentation. After a form change, the form used on the next visit must also be compatible. The published rule is not a guarantee that every existing form is supported.

When is training kept, and when is it lost?

Champions uses Victory Points (VP) to train stats such as Attack and Defense, and players can also change Abilities and moves. These adjustments belong to the Champions battle system. They do not update the Pokémon's training data in HOME.

For example, imagine a Pokémon visiting Champions, receiving stat and move changes, and then returning to HOME. Those adjustments are not carried into other games through HOME. If that very same Pokémon later visits Champions in the same form, its previously completed Champions training is restored.

Now imagine that the visitor returns to HOME, changes form, and only then comes back to Champions. In that situation, The Pokémon Company states that all results from its previous Champions training are erased. This rule concerns a form change; it does not mean that switching games or returning to HOME, by itself, automatically wipes the saved training.

Moves have an additional restriction: if a visiting Pokémon knows moves that cannot be used in Champions, those moves must be changed through the game's training feature. Pokémon undergoing a trial recruitment cannot be trained during that trial, according to the official explanation of recruitment.

How to send a Pokémon from HOME and bring it back

These steps follow Nintendo's instructions for Pokémon HOME on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. You need to use the Nintendo Account linked to Pokémon HOME and Pokémon Champions for the connection.

To begin a visit

  1. Open Pokémon HOME on the console and select Pokémon Champions from the main menu. On the first connection, confirm account linking.
  2. Select an eligible Pokémon, press Y, and confirm that you want to send it as a visitor.
  3. Open Pokémon Champions, go to Recruit, and select Collect from Pokémon HOME.
  4. Review the visitors that were sent and confirm collection.

To end a visit

  1. In Pokémon Champions, open Recruit and choose Send Back to Pokémon HOME.
  2. Select the Pokémon to return and press X.
  3. Review the selection and confirm, then check HOME.

Nintendo also confirms that sending Pokémon to visit Champions is supported in both the console and mobile versions of HOME. The button instructions above are for consoles. For the mobile app's procedure, Nintendo directs users to the in-app HOME Help menu.

Two precautions before changing your team

Do not confuse returning to HOME with returning to Roster Ranch. Pokémon Champions Support says that, if you return a Pokémon recruited within Champions to Roster Ranch, you cannot encounter that particular individual again. This differs from ending a HOME visitor's stay, since a visitor can return to the storage service and visit Champions again.

Check the linked account before completing the initial connection. Official support recommends the same Nintendo Account associated with HOME and states that an account already linked to Champions cannot be unlinked or changed. For players switching between consoles and phones, choosing the right account avoids a problem unrelated to species compatibility.

In practical terms, the safest approach is to identify where the Pokémon came from, confirm that it qualifies as a visitor, and check its form before bringing it back. Returning to HOME alone does not mean Champions training has vanished; returning in a different form does trigger the loss specified by the official rules.
