After the December 9, 2025, patch 1.11 for Silent Hill f, New Game+ removes placed Red Capsules once Hinako obtains the front-door keys to Shu's house without having consumed a single capsule. According to Konami, reaching that point also satisfies the no-Red-Capsules condition required for certain endings. It reduces the chance of accidentally spoiling an ending route, but it does not waive that ending's other requirements.
The essential distinction is between picking up a capsule and using it. The official notice identifies use as the deciding factor. Anyone pursuing an alternate ending should avoid consuming capsules from the start of the new playthrough, even before reaching Shu's house.
Moderate spoiler warning. This guide names all five endings and explains their unlock conditions, but does not recount their final scenes or major narrative revelations.
What exactly changed with patch 1.11 in New Game+?
Konami's official patch notes describe a specific sequence: start a New Game+ run, never use a Red Capsule and obtain the front-door keys to Shu's house while that remains true. At that point, the locations where Red Capsules would otherwise appear stop offering them, and the game registers the condition needed for certain endings.
This is a system adjustment, not a blanket removal of capsules from every playthrough. The notice also does not say that consuming a capsule before obtaining the keys is automatically undone, or that every possible ending-related issue was fixed. If a capsule was used before this checkpoint, the safer course for a capsule-free route is to reload a save from before that use, if available.
Konami announced the change for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC editions distributed through Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG. The build number associated with the patch was v1.2.382755, displayed on the main menu at the time. The same notice lists a separate fix for the No One Left Behind achievement on Casual action difficulty; that is not a blanket fix for every ending.
Does picking up a capsule block alternate endings?
Konami's documented rule is not to use Red Capsules. Simply collecting one is not identified in the patch notes as grounds for invalidating the route. The ending guides consulted likewise distinguish consuming a capsule from merely carrying it in the inventory. Even so, discarding the capsules and removing them from quick-use slots is a sensible precaution against accidental use, not an additional confirmed requirement.
Reaching the checkpoint at Shu's house does not replace the storyline objectives or specific items associated with an ending. It only resolves the capsule-related condition in runs that reach that point without consuming any. Nor does it turn the first playthrough into New Game+: on an initial run, the only full story ending available is Coming Home to Roost, according to PowerPyx's endings guide.
Which endings require avoiding capsules, and which conditions cannot be combined?
The comparison below draws on the requirements documented by PowerPyx and the specialist guide Silent Hill Memories. Ending names remain in English to match the game's menu.
| Ending | When it becomes available | Capsule rule and other requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Coming Home to Roost | First playthrough; also possible on later runs | The initial ending, and the outcome when no other ending's conditions are met. Consuming capsules on New Game+ prevents the dramatic routes that require avoiding them. |
| Fox's Wedding | New Game+ | Do not use capsules; obtain Agura no Hotei-sama; either purify the Sacred Sword or do not obtain the sword. |
| The Fox Wets Its Tail | New Game+ | Do not use capsules; obtain the Sacred Sword and leave it unpurified. |
| Ebisugaoka in Silence | After two different full story endings on the cleared-save progression | Do not use capsules; obtain and purify the Sacred Sword; offer the Brooch at the appropriate Jizo statue. The UFO ending does not count as one of the two previous story endings. |
| The Great Space Invasion! (UFO) | New Game+ | Follow the radio-broadcast clues, inspect three movie posters in the proper order, and read the movie review. No Red-Capsule restriction is listed among its documented requirements. |
Whether the sword is purified makes all the difference. For Fox's Wedding, it can be purified or never collected, but Agura no Hotei-sama is still required. For The Fox Wets Its Tail, Hinako must have the sword and must leave it unpurified. Ebisugaoka in Silence adds the Brooch offering and a history of two completed story endings. Avoiding capsules is therefore necessary for these three routes, but it is not sufficient on its own.
A practical route to protect the ending you want
- Finish the first playthrough and start New Game+ from the clear save. Keep a separate save before committing to a route, where the save system allows it.
- Check the endings option in the main menu, unlocked after the first ending, and decide whether you are pursuing Fox's Wedding, The Fox Wets Its Tail or, once progression permits, Ebisugaoka in Silence.
- Never consume Red Capsules during the run. Remove them from quick-use slots or discard them to reduce the risk of using one by mistake.
- Obtain the front-door keys to Shu's house without having taken a capsule. That is the patch 1.11 checkpoint where the game registers the condition and removes capsule placements.
- Check your route-specific items: Agura no Hotei-sama and the Sacred Sword's status for Fox's Wedding; an unpurified sword for The Fox Wets Its Tail; a purified sword, an offered Brooch and two previous story endings for Ebisugaoka in Silence.
- Verify everything before entering the Shimizu residence. Guides identify this entrance as the point at which the ending route is locked. Do not expect a last-minute dialogue option to replace a missed requirement.
This route does not impose a particular narrative order on the endings beyond the game's progression requirements. However, Ebisugaoka in Silence only becomes available once two different full story endings have been recorded in the appropriate cleared-save progression. The UFO ending cannot stand in for one of them.
What if capsules reappear or the game returns to the first ending?
A player report should not be mistaken for a developer-confirmed bug. In a Steam discussion dated December 30, 2025, one player reported capsules reappearing and the game returning to the first ending despite a run in which none had been consumed. After receiving advice in the same thread, the player acknowledged that Agura no Hotei-sama was missing and that the Brooch had not been offered. In that particular case, the missing ending requirements explained the outcome.
That example does not establish that every similar complaint is a planning mistake, nor does it prove a widespread post-patch bug. Konami's documentation supports the precise capsule adjustment and the specific fixes it lists, nothing broader. If a run produces the first ending, the first useful checks are capsule use, required items, the sword's purification status, previous endings and the checkpoint where the route became fixed.
It also matters that a historical patch number is not necessarily the currently installed build. The GOG edition's update history records later releases in 2026. Thus v1.2.382755 identifies the December 2025 patch 1.11, but should not be assumed to be the current version across all stores. The effect attributed to 1.11 here is the one Konami documented at its release.
